Melanie Gárate has been awarded two fellowships: The 2014 Nature Conservancy URI Marine award and the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. With these fellowships, she will collaborate with the NOAA Jobos Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Puerto Rico to study nutrient and crab impacts on the biogeochemistry of a fringe mangrove. The MV lab just got tropical.

Our 2013 SURFO fellow, Robert Ventura, presented the research he performed under graduate student Melanie Garate at the 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting in Honolulu, HI. His poster was titled "Marine macroinvertebrate greenhouse gas production: effects of anthropogenic nutrient and temperature stressors on coastal filter feeders. " Way to go, Rob! Dr. MV, graduate students Rose, Liz and Melanie and undergraduate Rob Ventura attend the Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation 2013 Conference in San Diego, California.
