MV Lab member, Ryan Quinn just received $1000 from the URI Undergraduate Research Initiative: Awards for Scholarly, Creative and Artistic Projects for her research proposal titled: Testing the effect of crab burrows and benthic algal presence on nutrient fluxes in a southern RI salt marsh. Ryan will complete this research during the Spring 2015 semester under the mentorship of Dr. Serena Moseman-Valtierra.

Melanie gave her first talk at a national conference titled "Increased temperature and excess nutrients may increase greenhouse gas fluxes from coastal systems" at the 2014 Society for Advancing Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) conference in Los Angeles, California! She also went along and won best graduate oral presentation in environmental science! Great job, Melanie!
